Read a Western natal chart and its aspects

Open the natal chart

Go to Western → Natal Chart & Aspects. The wheel is drawn for the chart in the header, with the Ascendant on the left, the houses inside the signs, and the planets with the true node, Chiron and Black Moon Lilith.

Lines inside the wheel join bodies in aspect: blue for the soft aspects, red for the hard ones and purple for the quincunx, dashed for the minor ones. Conjunctions have no line, as the two bodies already sit together.

Choose the house system

The menu above the wheel offers Placidus (the default), Koch, Whole Sign, Equal, Porphyry, Regiomontanus, Campanus and Topocentric. Your choice is remembered and used on every Western screen.

Placidus and Koch cannot be drawn near the poles; for a birthplace there, choose Whole Sign, Equal or Porphyry.

Read the positions and angles

Positions gives each body's sign and degree, its house and its daily speed; a retrograde body is marked ℞ and has a minus speed. Angles gives the Ascendant, Midheaven, Vertex, Descendant and Imum Coeli.

Read the aspects

Major aspects shows conjunctions, sextiles, squares, trines and oppositions; All adds the quincunx and the semi-sextile. The orbs are 8° for the major aspects except the sextile (6°), 3° for the quincunx and 2° for the semi-sextile.

The Aspect grid shows every pair in a triangle, with the glyph and the orb; a means applying and s separating. The Aspects table lists them tightest first, with aspects to the Ascendant and Midheaven; click a column heading to sort by it.

Check the cusps and balance

House cusps sets each cusp beside the one opposite it. Balance counts the ten planets, Sun to Pluto, by element and modality; the node, Chiron, Lilith and the angles are left out.
